How a performance solution works

The NCC is a performance-based code. Every Deemed-to-Satisfy Provision is one way of meeting a Performance Requirement, not the only way. When the drawings depart from a provision, a performance solution shows, using the Assessment Methods in A2G2, that the Performance Requirement is still met. The certifier adopts the solution and the design proceeds without a redesign.

We write the five solutions that come up on almost every job: light and ventilation, stairs, handrails, tactile indicators and weep holes. Each is a fixed fee with one revision included. Fire-engineered solutions are scoped and quoted separately.
